Belle, my sweet little silkie girl, has been bumping into things and missing the feed dish, poor little thing- so I thought I'd do my good deed and trim the "hair" away from her eyes so she can see again. The pictures above were AFTER I gave her a trim, if you can believe it! Now I keep hearing Frankie Avalon singing "Beauty School Dropout" over and over in my head.... (I've only seen "Grease" 486 times- what do I expect?)
Remember a couple months ago when I hoped for some apples on my little tree this year?
They're small, but I counted 8! Woo hoo! Not enough for a stack cake, but maybe for a pie?
We're still praying for rain.... haven't had any in 4 weeks now! Every dark cloud I see I think, "Oh, please...."
Have a great weekend, everybody!
hee hee... that's funny that you had to give her a hair cut. She's a cutie!
ReplyDeleteAnd we're supposed to get some bad storms tonight, so I'll try and push them your way. :)
Oh my gosh, how funny! Did she get a pedicure, too? Shampoo and set? Maybe she needs a perm!
ReplyDeleteLOL what a nice mommy you are. Poor girl she probably was desperately looking for a beauty salon and there was one right there in her own back yard.(-:
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you could give them a hair cut! I guess that only works on silkies, huh? I have a Polish that has trouble seeing too!
ReplyDeleteWe are needing rain too! I LOVE your chicken, she is beautiful. I love all of the different looking chickens.
ReplyDeletePaula - only you would cut your chicken's hair!! Now I've got "Beauty School Dropout" stuck in my head! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kay
I really AM a beauty school dropout, so I hear that song in my head ALL the time!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous that you have an apple tree! One day.......
You're so sweet to cut your chicken's hair! I'll bet she appreciates it so much!
I'll be praying for you to get some rain, too! We keep having the dark clouds, too, but no rain.
Blessings,
Julie
What a cute little silkie!
ReplyDeleteI wish my apple trees would grow apples, but I just planted them this year. I can't wait, I'm dreaming of pies, and applesauce.
I definitely think hot pink nails... are in order ;)
ReplyDeleteHey Farm chick, TAG YOUR IT... I'm taggin you to "8 Things" Please stop by the Potting shed for details...
It's just for fun... no pressures
Lea
<*)))><
Hi Paula you should come to north east its been raining of and on for weeks now, some days when the sunshines its great everyones happy. To day at 6.30.am it was brilliant sunshine for a couple of hours then the heavens opened up, then the sun came out and boy was it hot.I am hoping tommorow the rain will stay away, as i need my fix for the car boot sale.lol.Was that a silkie, i just love the silkies i love all chickens really i have a buff orpington and just plain chickens, i will take some pictures of my chicks, thats if the fox doesn't come back.Blessing to you~Kate~
ReplyDeleteLove the haricut-and Grease too! We are praying for rain too-got a little yesterday but not enough.
ReplyDeleteA haircut for a chicken? That has got to be a first! ;-Þ
ReplyDeleteMmm...fresh apple pie, the very thought of it makes me drool. ;-)
oh my gosh....LOL...it just totally cracks me up you gave your chicken a haircut! LOL you should have video'd it!!! ROFL!!! I Hope you are well Paula!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI'm just cracking up here!!!!! I could use a haircut like that, too!!!!! And yes, pink nails are definitely in order!
ReplyDeleteWe finally got our rains here this week. It was sooooooo dry and the sprinklers were NOT doing the job in the horrible heat. I'm just so thankful when I see that black cloud coming!
My sister has a theory! If she waters ----- it rains!
Cora
You know Belle probably wonders where her little bow is! Maybe a little sweat band like in Physical?
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny. Thanks for taking time out to visit and comment. I could use a pedicure myself. I'm going to try to send some of this rain your way. It rains so much, hubby can't keep the grass cut or weeds pulled. He is working 12 hours a day 6 days a week because the guy that does his job on second is National Guard and he was called to duty up at Columbus Junction, one of the flood sites. He is just exhausted and then on his one day off, it rains. I try to keep him well-fed and hydrated. He is getting by on 5 hours sleep daily. I couldn't do it. I am such a baby..... Well, next weekend, he gets 3 days! He and his brother-in-law are putting up our fence for the dogs. That shouldn't be hard. We already have all the supplies. That will be nice to just turn the dogs out instead of walking them everytime they need to go....
Have a great rest of the weekend!
lol...your Silkie is adorable & I know she appreciates seeing now...lol A haircut on a chicken...too cute.
ReplyDeleteFor a beauty school dropout - you did very respectable work. I'm impressed with your chicken couture design. What did you make with the apples? Hard waiting for an orchard to produce enough of a "crop" - I'm not even good about leaving things alone long enough to mature! Always fun to drop by Fraker's place - lots of activity.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I am still laughing...giving a chicken a haircut!!! You did, however, do a super job..she looks just beautiful! I just love reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteJuri
how funny is that? She looks like a rock star...maybe you have a new career, Paula? I could see you in a Chicken Beautician van for mobile hair cuts for poultry...can we say, reality show?
ReplyDeletewe planted a new apple tree this year too that is loaded...they are small but like you, we are hopeful...
My God, I cannot believe you have not had any rain in 4 weeks! The exact opposite is true for us here in NW Ohio. We are wishing it would STOP raining!
ReplyDeleteThat poor chicken! I wonder whatever gave people the idea that it would be fun to breed a chicken that is essentially blind because of its ornamental feathering. Probably the same people who thought it would be fun to breed Shar Peis.
Hi I was at Mandie's blog and saw your comment. I have chicks, too, so I thought I'd drop in.
ReplyDeleteYou did much better than I did chicken trimming. My silky looked like Edward Scisscorhand's had been her barber when I tried to cut her bangs. Now, I have only RI reds, barred rocks and a few other non-shaggy types!
OK - that was very funny....but I have to ask - did she really stand still for this hair cut??? It's hard enough brushing the dog out!!
ReplyDeleteHave a good day - wishing you lots-o-rain!!
Karla & Karrrie
Ok, i have never given a chicken a haircut, but back when i was breeding doves i had to trim a ringneck dove on the opposite end because the feathers kind of got in the way of fertility....Do chickens have this problem too? Too many feathers in an inconvenient place???(other than the head i mean)
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy! A chicken cut. LOL!
ReplyDeleteYea for the apples!
The weather is so strange all over this year. We just had our first hot week. Now if it is normal we will go July and Aug. with very little rain. But then this is the NW and if could rain all summer.
Debbie
I have a dozen polish cresteds and I have to give a couple of haircuts per week! I agree with Amy. THey are adorable and calm, but I feel sorry for them with their vision issues. The silkies are the cutest!
ReplyDeleteShe's cute. John had to shave a couple of chickens the other day, one's our dog got a hold of, then he sutured them with needle and thread. Amazingly they are still doing well!
ReplyDeleteWe had rain almost daily here in Maine.
LOL! I never thought that chickens might near a hair cut. Now your Belle is bellissima!
ReplyDeletePatricia :o)
Love it! I'm learning so much from you. lol Grease is one of my favorite all time movies I could watch it over and over. We also need rain. My mom will call and say it's raining, she lives about an hour away, and I tell her to go out and blow it our way. So far she hasn't blew hard enough becuase we still havne't had any.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the silkie haircut! I have a Sultan that is going to get a little trim too. Although it's humorous to sneak up on her when she can't see me!
ReplyDeleteHey, I have eight apples on my new little tree too!
I've never heard of giving a chicken a haircut! But then I have never had Silkies either.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got rain. We have had it daily but need it since everything is made of sand.
Paula,
ReplyDeleteYour photos are delightful! I am still laughing form the beauty makeover and yearning to be in your garden with you. The birdie is awesome cute!
smiles, cyndi
Now that is the first time I've ever heard of a farmgirl giving chickens a haircut! And, of course Paula, it would be you! LOL You are a hoot!
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
Lea
It's no wonder I love blogland - Trimming your chicken's feathers in the bathroom sink is a hoot! I LOVE IT! I'm glad I found you!
