Oh Farmchick, where art thou?

Sorry to go missing again, but my life for the last couple of weeks can be summed up like this....
pick beans, break beans, can beans, repeat.

However, on a happy note, I have not blown up the Fraker Farm (yet) with my new canner, so everything is o-kay! (Unlike poor Cora's experience..... mine has been all good so far!)

The rain is falling steady today, and I need to run some errands, but for now I'm going to catch up on my blogging- I've missed you! I'll be dropping in for a visit on everyone today to see what's been going on, so this post will be short.

I do want to share a little something funny with you- this was an e-mail a friend of mine sent yesterday. Enjoy!

It's so hot right now in Tennessee- (or you can insert where you live)

.....the birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.

.....the trees are whistling for the dogs.

.....the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance

......you learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron

......you discover that in July it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car

.......the potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is pull one out and add butter

......the cows are giving evaporated milk

......farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying boiled eggs.

And the best one-
.....your biggest bicycle wreck fear is,"What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

STAY COOL, everybody!

  4. Ooh, the jar of beans looks so pretty. You'll be eating good all year, I dare say!

The list was hilarious. I can most identify with the one that said...

the best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance

That is so true! There are actually some places where I will not shop in the summer due to lack of shade. It can also determine where we will go out to eat, when we do. Bears hibernate in winter. Here in Texas, I hibernate in the summer.

  5. Oh yum!! I love canned beans. I have a pressure cooker but I am terrified to use it. We are having some of that hot weather here too. We are running a little dry too. Bring on the rain!

  7. Got our first beans today. We'll eat them for supper but once they start, they go to town and we planted contenders. They produce all summer. Also got oour first tomatillas and plan a salsa with them. We planted mammoth jalapenos and they live up to the name--they are huge--LOL We still plan to can it all for winter--ants here, not grasshoppers!
Love the joke about heat cuz it's all true. Loved hearing from you. Stay cool....:) Linda

  8. I love that email~how true!! My favorite part was feeding the chickens crushed ice!

I know those beans are lots of work, but just think how good they'll be when it's frosty outdoors this winter. Wow, frosty sounds soooo nice.

  14. Hey Paula, I know that routine all too well. Pick beans, pick okra, pick, freeze, can... isn't it wonderful though to see all of it when it is done and better yet to enjoy it when it will be cold and windy outside this winter!
    Have a great weekend.

  16. Paula, that jar of beans looks so wonderful! Brings all sorts of happy thoughts. I am just downright sad that I don't have a veggie ... well I did get one little tiny cherry tomato which I popped into my mouth immediately!

Thank the Lord for good farmgirl friends. I got a back of squash and tomatoes today. Bless their sweet hearts.

Love that funny! We're sure feeling it here in West Tennessee too. Only the butterflies are moving around out there.

    Be blessed,
    Lea

  19. I loved your hot weather jokes. very cute and funny as you are too with that pressure canner. Be careful!!!. I still use the old boiling bath method although I have a pressure canner, I have never used it. I once helped my mom clean chicken broth off the kitchen ceiling once. It skeered us sooo bad. Thank the Lord for the rain. Yea!! Your garden looks real nice. The maters are coming right along. I don't have a red one oin sight although I have some bigger than baseballs, just not red baseballs.

  20. My garden is so pitiful this year - I'm having garden envy - beautiful jars of beans - read Cora's posting and it was priceless! Thank you for your sweet note on my blog and prayers - those who trust in the Lord never have to say goodbye forever.

  21. Oh my gosh! I can sooooo relate to your hot weather sayings. The sad thing is that I really HAVE thought about having a bike accident and what it would be like to lay on the broiler, I mean cement. Whew! I just can't imagine that!

  22. Hi Paula, Yummy beans~ brings back lots of memories of picking, breaking and freezing beans. I need a new pressure cooker, mine, was purchased at a garage sale many moons ago. Hubby had me toss it, because the sediment from the metal was starting to stick to our jars during the hot pack and sterilization process. I mostly freeze things from the garden, since I have a handy dandy seal- a- meal.

Oh, for heaven sakes, I'm still giggling about your heat wave list. The bicycle one could have been me yesterday... LOL
