If you let me, I could get really carried away showing you my 15 new Silkie babies... this is not the final count either because Sadie is now sitting on the 6 eggs she laid on top of poor Clementine while she was busy brooding.
*Sigh*....
I love fuzzy bottoms....
I have a fever, and the only cure is more fuzzy bottoms.
Contrary to what you might think, I haven't been spending ALL my waking hours peeping into the box of peeps in my sewing room... well, most hours, but not all of them. I have managed to do something productive, like.... buy more patterns on eBay! *Squeeeal*
I bought two new chicken patterns- one is for an appliqued apron and the other is for a cute little shelf-sitter. I'm in the process of cutting out the patterns right now, so they're spread out all over my cutting table. I also organized my fabric stash and cleaned off my sewing table.... now that the garden is finished and mowing is slowing down (just a little) I plan on spending the hottest part of the day inside with my sewing machine.
I also made some more grape jelly for Hubby this weekend using the most incredibly easy (and yummy) recipe from my Ball canning book....
Quick Grape Jelly
3 cups of bottled unsweetened grape juice
1 package powdered pectin
4 1/2 cups of sugar (I actually thought this was a bit much the first time I made it, so I cut it back to 3 cups this time and it was still plenty sweet enough!)
Combine juice and powdered pectin in a large saucepot. Bring to a boil over high heat. Add sugar, stirring until dissolved and return to a boil. Boil hard one minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and skim foam if necessary. Ladle into hot jars, leaving ¼-inch headspace. Adjust caps and process 10 minutes in a boiling water canner.

Squeal!!!! They are SSSOOOOOO adorable! The only thing that saves me from chick addiction is that I live in town and have a medium-sized yard! Keep the photos coming!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Lorilee
They are adorable! I'm expecting 15 Eastereggers to hatch this weekend. Baby chicks are sooooo cute!
ReplyDeleteI would love to see your homemade chicken stuff when you get done. Make sure to share.
mighty cute but better you than me! our 8 egg layers are plenty thankeweberrymuch. The jelly looks like it is saying "peanut butter come here big fella" or else demanding some hot biscuits and butter! So good to hear from you - and your fuzzy bottoms!

Pam

ReplyDeleteOh, Paula, I ♥ these little sweeties!♥♥♥ them! You are surrounded by younguns now---must seem like spring all over.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother Fraise used to pick the grapes, wash them and put them in galoon jars, She covered them with water and processed. Then all winter she had juice to make jelly. It was so difficult to store jelly back then. The wax, you know. She always let us have a drink of that natural juice--yummy....Thanks for the memory♥
What cuties! Chicks and bunnies always make me melt!!!
ReplyDeleteThey're so precious, I can't blame you for wanting to stare at them! I love fuzzy bottoms too!

I need some more silkies! I like the white ones but your blue / grays are mighty tempting too!Lucky you. And lucky silkie mamas. They love nothing more than bustling around with a little brood of chicks, that is what they know they were born to do.
ReplyDeleteAww...what sweet little babies, Paula! I just love reading about your life. I'm so envious!
ReplyDeleteBabies with fuzzy bottoms *squeal*! So sweet! Jelly looks wonderful, too!

THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE.
ReplyDeleteI made jam yesterday as well, blackberry pineapple zucchini jam. YUM YUM!
I just bought me some silkies!! I gots a Blue rooster and a white hen. She hasn't layed any eggs yet, though. But the man I bought them from has offered me a splash hen and a white rooster, too. I want them, but I have too many chickens. I need to get rid of a few. Most of my chickens are mixed or plain yard birds. I wanna get into pures for showin' now.
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot. I had an abundance of jalapenos this year, so I made pepper jelly. It was my first jelly, and it turned out pretty good. Love it with some cream cheese on a ritz cracker!!
ReplyDeleteOH how cute they are, Paula! I can tell how much you love your furry animals!
ReplyDeleteI want to try the grape jelly! I've never made any. Thanks for sharing your recipe!
Have a great day!
Tammy
Ahh, they are precious, Paula.
ReplyDeleteHow could you not love them? lol
The grape jelly sounds delicious and easy.
Fuzzybutts! Everyone should have 10 or 15 of them! They are terribly cute. I have to say that I got so spoiled when I was a kid because of my grandmother. She made homemade jellies and jams and I refused to eat store bought for many, many years. Homemade is so much better than store bought. I love that you sew. I am not really fond of sewing so I love that others like to do it.
ReplyDeleteWELCOME to the world fuzzybottoms!
ReplyDeleteI totally get you Paula. TOTALLY.
*Iunderstand* your LOVE.
Have FUN sewin! Oh; and I get that too. lol Can hardly wait to see pictures okay!!!
I'm off to read you more.

Your babies are soooo adorable! I like your idea of hot outside=stay inside. I need some help - my granddaughter has become hooked on "little house on the prairie" and wants a laura ingall night hat and gown. It should be simple enough but. Do you have any ideas? Maybe I could find a pattern/maybe not. Oh, and I've got until early september so no pressure, right?
ReplyDeleteCute fuzzy bottoms : )

ReplyDeleteI grew up with chicks in a box under a heat lamp, usually in the kitchen, and so miss those days. Someday I aspire to be a farm girl again....
How do you stand it? SO SO CUTE!!! And I got a kick out of your, "I've got a fever..." quote. I actually bought a Cowbell T-shirt for my SIL for his last birthday. Funny stuff! : )

Hello dear Paula! How nice to visit and see those cute little fuzzies still warming the pages of your blog! They are darling.
ReplyDeleteAren't those patterns just addicting? Oh my, if only I sewed one tenth of the patterns I have, I could open a small store! LOL But I really plan to get going here now that these lovely cool temperatures seem to bring on sewing fever.

Blessings,
Lea

ReplyDeleteCute little fuzzy bottoms! Just wanted to say that I love your farm - the photo in a recent post is almost "painting-like". The way the fence line runs up the hill and the sunset. It's beautiful! I know you enjoy living there!
ReplyDeleteYour jelly looks so good - I put up only plum this year, but alot of it. I was hoping to do some peach preserves, but the time got away from me. I guess I could still do it, but we've just been too busy! Enjoy your weekend!
Those silkies are just so adorable! Nothing beats fuzzy bottoms! They are so snuggly and cute :) Congratulations and thanks for sharing. Hopefully I will have a better chicken year this year!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww, the fuzzy bottoms are so cute! I just want to hold and cuddle them. Your jars of jelly look really nice too. I hope you post pictures of your homemade chicken stuff.
ReplyDeleteThis is my kind of blog, I love chickens, and have new babys from spring, they get picked on by the older chickens really bad, dont know how to help them.
ReplyDeleteI am going to make grape jelly today, my grapes are ready to harvest.
Jenny
Good morning Paula!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say hi and drop by the shed to see more fuzzy bottoms!

Oh. My. Gosh. They are such little heartbreakers!! I've had 2 broody hens trying to decide if they are gonna sit and stay or get up and wander off for FOUR weeks now!! Gah! Good thing there's always plenty of eggs, but this is stressful on me.
ReplyDeleteOh, did you make some jam too? hahaha! Nice work!
