If you let me, I could get really carried away showing you my 15 new Silkie babies... this is not the final count either because Sadie is now sitting on the 6 eggs she laid on top of poor Clementine while she was busy brooding.

I love fuzzy bottoms....
I have a fever, and the only cure is more fuzzy bottoms.
Contrary to what you might think, I haven't been spending ALL my waking hours peeping into the box of peeps in my sewing room... well, most hours, but not all of them. I have managed to do something productive, like.... buy more patterns on eBay! *Squeeeal*
I bought two new chicken patterns- one is for an appliqued apron and the other is for a cute little shelf-sitter. I'm in the process of cutting out the patterns right now, so they're spread out all over my cutting table. I also organized my fabric stash and cleaned off my sewing table.... now that the garden is finished and mowing is slowing down (just a little) I plan on spending the hottest part of the day inside with my sewing machine.
I also made some more grape jelly for Hubby this weekend using the most incredibly easy (and yummy) recipe from my Ball canning book....
Quick Grape Jelly
3 cups of bottled unsweetened grape juice
1 package powdered pectin
4 1/2 cups of sugar (I actually thought this was a bit much the first time I made it, so I cut it back to 3 cups this time and it was still plenty sweet enough!)
Combine juice and powdered pectin in a large saucepot. Bring to a boil over high heat. Add sugar, stirring until dissolved and return to a boil. Boil hard one minute, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and skim foam if necessary. Ladle into hot jars, leaving ¼-inch headspace. Adjust caps and process 10 minutes in a boiling water canner.

This recipe makes about 4 half-pints, so I doubled the ingredients and came out with nearly 5 pints. Hubby was very happy!Have a happy Monday, everybody!
Squeal!!!! They are SSSOOOOOO adorable! The only thing that saves me from chick addiction is that I live in town and have a medium-sized yard! Keep the photos coming!

ReplyDeleteMy grandmother Fraise used to pick the grapes, wash them and put them in galoon jars, She covered them with water and processed. Then all winter she had juice to make jelly. It was so difficult to store jelly back then. The wax, you know. She always let us have a drink of that natural juice--yummy....Thanks for the memory♥

I just bought me some silkies!! I gots a Blue rooster and a white hen. She hasn't layed any eggs yet, though. But the man I bought them from has offered me a splash hen and a white rooster, too. I want them, but I have too many chickens. I need to get rid of a few. Most of my chickens are mixed or plain yard birds. I wanna get into pures for showin' now.

Fuzzybutts! Everyone should have 10 or 15 of them! They are terribly cute. I have to say that I got so spoiled when I was a kid because of my grandmother. She made homemade jellies and jams and I refused to eat store bought for many, many years. Homemade is so much better than store bought. I love that you sew. I am not really fond of sewing so I love that others like to do it.

Your babies are soooo adorable! I like your idea of hot outside=stay inside. I need some help - my granddaughter has become hooked on "little house on the prairie" and wants a laura ingall night hat and gown. It should be simple enough but. Do you have any ideas? Maybe I could find a pattern/maybe not. Oh, and I've got until early september so no pressure, right?

Oh. My. Gosh. They are such little heartbreakers!! I've had 2 broody hens trying to decide if they are gonna sit and stay or get up and wander off for FOUR weeks now!! Gah! Good thing there's always plenty of eggs, but this is stressful on me.
