Friday rain...

It's a gloomy Friday here on the farm... although we do need rain in the worst way.

In my kitchen, I have a roast in the crockpot for tonight's supper. I was talking with my dear friend Linda from Parker's Paradise the other day about recipes, and I told her I read somewhere that if you rubbed lard or Crisco on the top of your roast before cooking, it would help seal in the moisture and keep it juicy and tender. I've never heard of this before, so today I'm going to give it a try. I'll let you know how it turns out.

From my sewing room, I've been creating some pumpkins. My "real" pumpkins didn't make it- we planted too late. So, I've been busy just making my own... and even though there will be no pies coming from these, I'm still having fun. Who knows, I might even decide to give one away next week.... stay tuned.

(Did I just say... GIVEAWAY?! Nothing like a weekend cliffhanger, huh?)
Have a great weekend, everybody!

  6. I love the view from your porch. It looks like a park. We are a little overcast this morning too, but I don't want it to rain this weekend since we have kids coming for a visit again.
A roast in the crockpot sounds good. I don't have a lot of luck with roasts for some reason, but I've never tried the crockpot method.
The pumpkin you made is adorable.

  8. Hey Paula,
I used to flour and fry my roast good on each side before putting it in the crock pot. (I did say used to) I really couldn't tell the difference on the tender part.
Can't wait to hear how the crisco works.
    The pumpkin is sooo cute!
and guess what? we have rain also!!! finally.
The well went dry this morning, so it maybe the rain will help with that.
    Have a good weekend.

  15. You have rain ! Our weather man has forecast rain for a few days now, but nope...just crisp weather with lots of sun shine. I am wanting rain so I feel like staying inside and getting things done.

I love your porch, and the pumpkin is cute. Please tell me how the roast turns out, I have never heard of that before.

  16. I love my crock pot! I made applesauce today and it came out so good. It was enough (8 cups) to freeze some too. We've got some much-needed rain here too. The pond is so low from the August drought, I hope to see it rise some.
