I've been feeling guilty because I haven't felt like spending much time up at the barn with my babies.... (stop laughing, Juri.) Sarge and all the rest of my feathered friends will eventually get over it, as well as Daisy and Edie, although they are all in the process of pouting just to remind me of what a sorry sack I am for being sick.
From my sewing room:
I'm still tweaking my prototype pumpkin... I wasn't happy with the stem the pattern called for so I've been experimenting with a new one. Hopefully a pristine pumpkin or two will be emerging shortly, and I can feel good about giving one away!
(I'm probably the only one who feels this way, but a new fat quarter stash makes me smile...)
From my kitchen today: I'm making chicken salad from a leftover rotisserie chicken. (I heart leftovers, don't you?) For those of you who are wondering about how the Crisco on the roast turned out- it seemed to help, because even though I bought the "cheaper" cut of roast, it came out of the crockpot very tender on top, where as in the past, the part of the roast not in the water got sorta dry and tough. I don't know that I'll do it again, because I usually use the bag-n-seasoning way of cooking a roast- I think it's much more flavorful than a crock pot. Oh well, trial and error, I guess...
I've got a lot of blogging to catch up on, so I'll be dropping in at your place soon!
I am so relieved to hear you are better. There seems to be a bug going around here, too. Kind of a flu bug. Hope it misses me!
ReplyDeleteWho knew the girls would hold a grudge? They will get over it in time.....They know they are loved....
Don't overdo, my dear. Let things happen. Sorry the roast wasn't what you were hoping for. I love crockpot roast. It is always juicy but then I use alot of onion soup mix and the full 4 cups water.
Sometimes, it just doesn't pay to experiment when you are already happy with something. I used to try all kinds of meatloaf recipes but quit experimenting after deciding none of them matched up with my tried and true.....
Have a wonderful day and weekend. :) LInda
It's so good to read your post again! I am so glad you are feeling better... I love leftovers too... :)
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteCute pumpkin
I hadn't heard of putting crisco on a roast. Who-da-thunk-it? I'm enjoying reading through your blog.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better..and getting caught up with all the work...one thing that always waits for us, huh?
ReplyDeleteI've never had good luck with roasts..they seem to shrink up into crusty little lumps...even the most expensive ones, crockpot or not, doesn't make a difference...my mom could cook the best ones but its another one of my nemesis...
Glad you are feeling better. I like your pumpkin. I really like your fat Q stash! I always feel more secure when the fabric stash in renewed.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Hi Paula
ReplyDeleteGlad you are better.
That pumpkin is cute.
I haven`t used a crockpot for years, not since the time we all got sick, back in the days when I use to eat meat and chicken (can`t believe I use to eat chicken, have never told my feathered girls that). Crock pots are good environments for incubating bacteria!
have a great day
Rose
I'm glad you are feeling better! The temperature here today was 80. I think the weather is trying to confuse me.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're feeling better! Your girls are just like any other girl...they'll get happy in the same pants they got sad in! Well...not that they wear pants!
ReplyDeleteHi Paula
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are feeling better...those birthday celebrations do that to me too. lol Just kidding.
I wish we were that warm here. I went into town this afternoon and the thermostat was reading 48*..
Ginger
I am very happy that you are feeling better!!
ReplyDeleteYour "punkin" is simply precious!!!
Blessings and hugs,
Pam
New fabric always makes me happy!
ReplyDeleteI'm 39 too. As of a couple of weeks ago. It's a good age and good year to be born. Happy birthday.
ReplyDeleteYour pumpkin is really cute! Hope your feathered friends are fine! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better! A lot of folks around here have been sick lately, too.
ReplyDeleteI love your little pumpkin! Looks great on the stove.
The 70 something temps have been nice lately, but I think we're cooling down to the lower 60s for a few days.
Keep getting some rest,
R~Mary
So very glad that you're feeling better, Paula!
ReplyDeleteSmiles,
Lea
Hi Paula, I haven't been visiting blogs lately so I thought I would get caught up tonight. Sorry to hear you were not feeling good, but also glad to hear you are better. Did you get your flu shot for the flu season yet?? I also see I missed your birthday, happy belated birthday! And your pumpkin looks cute too!
ReplyDeleteLove, Ann
I am glad to read you're feeling better. I clicked on your blog every night ( early morning)and saw you were still under the weather and hoped it wasn't serious.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me about the temperature there ? WoW !
Good luck on the pumpkin. Nothing gets my brain more fired up than trying to figure out just how to accomplish THE look I had in my mind for the project I am working on...sometimes inspiration does strike. Usually I need to play music and ignore the phone!
I am so glad to hear you are feeling better! I bet your babies are missing you....I know when I am not feeling well and rush through the goat chores and chicken chores, they know!!! Animals are forgiving, though, aren't they? I love the pumpkin!! Thanks for reporting on the roast, I was curious as to how that would turn out!
ReplyDeleteJuri
Hey Paula, I am glad you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI never get caught up around here, so you are doing better than me.lol..
Don't over do it now.
Have a great day.
Pam
Hey Paula, It's good to hear you are feeling better. The pumpkin is cute I like the little witch hat on it. Take Care :)
ReplyDeleteHi Paula,
ReplyDeleteI've missed coming here-too busy...I'm glad you are feeling good again. Your pumpkin is lovely.
I think some chicken-love is just what the doctor ordered. Just the thought of feathers makes me feel better when I'm sick!
Love, Debra
Paula-I was thinking about my comment "too busy." I didn't mean I can't take the time to come here (one of my favorite spots on earth!) I meant I have been nuts with not enough time!
ReplyDeleteI should watch how I say things!!
Love, Debra
I am so very happy ;) to hear your back on your feet. We missed you!!!
ReplyDeleteHoney, that pumpkin looks swell, don't you be fussin now ya hear?
Welcome back my friend,
Mel
Paula,
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better.
Did I forget to say how much I love your new look? It's wonderful. Especially the cast of characters! Makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Lea
Good morning Paula.
ReplyDeleteYes that music is from Smoky Mountain Hymns. Have you heard Smoky Mountain Christmas? It is my very favorite. I couldn't find my copy so I just ordered one from amazon. I think my total including shipping was about $4.00! And it arrived like new. It is just the sweetest Christmas music ever played on handcrafted instruments.
Smiles,
Lea
Glad to hear you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteon roasts I am crockpotting a roast today. I do the onion soup mix with water, too. For oven, if I am doing a cheap roast my In-laws taught me to get suet and put it on top while cooking. It looks weird at first, but tastes great and really helps teh dryness. The other favorite is to add cream of mushroom soup and some mushrooms on top. Taaas-tteeee!
I think my roo would eat me alive if I didn't remind him who I was twice a day! I am a little worried about when I have travel again... Your Sarge is a such a good bird.
I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better!! I LOVE your little pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are perkier - we are still working toward that status. DH and I both have had colds this week. Yes the animals get demanding when we've only done the basics (open pen, replenish water, close up pen at night) for them - they just need to learn to deal with it! HA! My crockpot went kaput - so until I figure out which kind I want next I am crockpotless. The roast thing is a little different for me - I usually have the top covered with chopped up veggies of some kind or at least diced canned tomatoes so it stays pretty moist.
ReplyDeletewe do the chicken salad with the rotiserrie chicken too, we like a little curry powder with the mayo and onions. What do you mix yours with?
ReplyDeleteSorry- Sarge isn't a Roo (just self described alpha chick?) I thought about that after I typed and sent. Click first think later doesn't always work ;)
ReplyDeleteHey Paula! I'm so glad to see you're feeling better. You sure jumped back into all your chores with both feet. Don't over do it.
ReplyDeleteLove the pumpkin! And I'm sure there are plenty of gals who feel great when they buy fabric. I happen to be one of those people who loves all kinds of textiles.
Blessings,
Patricia :o)
Glad you're feeling better. Thanks for the comments on my blog. I love coming here and I love your log house, its so beautiful:0)
ReplyDeleteO.k. So here is proof I am a total amateur. What are spurs? What would I nip them off with?? and mostly- will it make him nicer??? (fingers crossed :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are back up and at 'em!
ReplyDeleteI love your little punkin. I made some a few years back, I'll dig 'em out and post about the process.
Take 'er easy!
Hiya Paula
ReplyDeleteI would love to see pics of your silkies! No I didn`t get anymore lil chicks, I have enough already, they just keep on going and I have been taking their eggs away so the broody ones cant lay any more babies (which are more than 50% roosters anyways). It`s really difficult when we go away to get someone to babysit them all. My falcon and hawks don`t visit me anymore (don`t know why, I thought they liked me!)
Rose
It is nice that you are back to feeling good! A nice stack of fat quarters are a prize for sure!! What are you going to make? I know..just stack them somewhere so you can see them! :))
ReplyDeleteThe roast and crisco is one I've never heard of. Thanks for the tip!
So glad you are feeling fit as a fiddle again, Paula! Love the pumpkin, by the way...and no, you are definitely NOT the only person who is thrilled by a new fat quarter stash! :-) Me, too! I wanted to tell you how sweet I thought your comment was on my post for Veteran's Day. He read all the comments (so far) tonight and it did his heart good! Thanks so much! God bless--
ReplyDeleteMarie
So glad you are feeling better :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pumpkin!!!
Hi Paula,
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my blog today...glad to hear that you're on the mend! Happy Belated Birthday!
Yes, there's nothing quite like leftovers. Just makes life much simpler sometimes. I'll take all the help I can get! Your pumpkin is really cute, by the way!
Have a terrific Tuesday! Hop on over anytime! :)
This is my first time to visit your blog. I came by way of Jayedee's blog.
ReplyDeleteCrisco on a roast is an interesting idea for making it more pleasing to the lips. I wonder what it does to the hips? LOL.
As for taking delight in a new fat quarter stash...I love new fat quarters, too! They are such a simple pleasure...
I enjoyed my visit.
You had me at '73 degrees'. I'm jealous. It's been in the 40s and 50s around here. While it's good for huntin' season I hear, it's not good for my motivation to finish up things outside!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better. I used to sew and cross stitch and loved the way the cloth and thread felt in my hands - that gave me a lot of joy just like your new fabric! The pumpkins are really cute as is. I am adding you to my favorites so I can follow your progress. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteYea! I'm so glad you're feeling better, Paula! Your babies need you. :-D
ReplyDeleteMy favorite way to cook a pot roast is in my cast iron dutch oven. It turns out flavorlicious good, as my nephew used to say as a tot (he's 36 now!).
