A blast from my past

Being a child of the 70's, I will forever love anything associated with that decade. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Little House on the Prairie, bell bottoms, and Bo and Luke Duke; and I will always have the BeeGees in my music collection. (In fact, I have been known to listen to Saturday Night Fever on my MP3 while vacuuming...)

I was looking up something on the internet the other day and came across an interesting link, which led to another one, then another, then another.... you know how that goes. I finally wound up at a really neat site called The Vermont Country Store. I was amazed at some of the items they carried that I hadn't seen in years.
Then it happened- I squealed with joy when I saw not just one of my all time favorite shampoos, but two! Remember these?

They arrived last week and I couldn't wait to use them.... I was a little disappointed that the "Body on Tap" didn't come in the old Lava lamp-shaped bottle, but it still smells the same as it used to. And the "Gee your hair smells terrific" doesn't lather up as well as I remembered, but my hair smelled so good after using it, I spent the whole day flinging my hair around like Cher just to smell it. (I know, I'm a fruitcake.) They were a bit pricey however, so I'll have to use sparingly.

Yes, I now have retro hair.

Now if only I could fit into my old bell bottoms.... *sigh*...

  2. I remember being in college and using Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific. I had a "shag" hairstyle! My Dad could not stand the fragrance when I would use it at home!!! One of my girlfriends and I saw the Bee Gees live in Atlanta and it was just great! We had opera glasses so we could zoom in on them! Thank you for the memories Paula.

  8. Hi Paula:
I can remember the one shampoo Gee your hair smells terrific but not the other one. I have the worst memory of anyone I know.
I still watch Little House on the Prairie reruns even though I've seen them over and over.
    Enjoy your products!!

  9. Oh, I haven't seen those shampoos in years! What a neat site you found! I will say that I don't miss the bell bottoms-but maybe Bo and Luke a little:)

Someone emailed me not long ago, talking about things from our childhood. She mentioned those yucky necklaces that were candy. Now they just sound nasty to me, but I remember we loved them at the time!

  10. OMG I love both of those!!! But my absolute, all time favorite shampoo is Suave's strawberry scent. It just makes me want to flip the cap off the bottle and drink it.

*did I just say that out loud?*

  11. Memories! In my case, memories of the tv my parents wouldn't get and the "cool" hair products my parents, again, wouldn't buy! LOL! I wonder if my daughter will have the same feelings because I won't buy her "Teen Spirit" deodorant!

  21. I've never heard of either one of those, but I did get a good mental picture of a fruitcake tossing her hair back like Cher! :)

  22. I was never a big fan of the 70`s back then when I was living it or now and the Dukes of Hazzard made me cringe then as they do now but hey each to their own LOL.
I am enjoying watching Life On Mars, both the English and American versions, the hairstyles are so funny!
Thanks for your concern Paula but we are along way from the fires, very safe!

  24. I love the Vermont Country Store. I used to get their catalogue. I was an Herbal Essence shampoo girl, myself. Did they have any Sun-In in there, by chance? Ah, the days I lay baking in the sun, with my coconut suntan lotion and yellow bottle of Sun-In nearby...in the days I'd be caught outside the house IN a swimsuit, that is. ;-)

  25. I also used the "Gee your hair smells terrific" and LOVED it with my Farrah hairdo!!!!! Course I lived in Houston, Texas so big hair was the rage!

Oh and the BeeGees are one of my favorites! We have been to a LOT of concerts but I hate that we never went to one of theirs.

  29. What, no pics of retro hair? Did you iron it too? If I shaved my head I am sure I would have scars where I burned my scalp by hitting the blast of steam button on the iron while I was too close to my head. Ala 1974 in my best friend's hall way at six am. Ahh, memories!

  30. OMGosh! That is hilarious! I remember that "Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific" shampoo! How fabulous is that! :)

  31. I loved "Gee your hair smells terrific" shampoo too. I also loved Miss Breck but I guess Prell was cheaper and I always felt that my hair "went from flat to fluffy" just like they said it would on the bottle!!

OMG Bell bottoms were the bomb and still are. Of course I wore clogs with mine and when my daughters heard that they freaked out. Guess what.....they now wear clogs with their bell bottoms (boot cut low rise jeans) hehehe

Thanks for the blast from the past. I'll have to get me some new shampoo too ;-)

  32. Mmmmm....Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific! Between that, strawberry lip gloss, and Charlie perfume...well, let's just say you could probably smell me a mile away!

And I have to drag out pictures of my Dorothy Hamill haircut, bell bottoms, clogs, and smock tops to let my daughter know that what goes around comes around!

  37. If you ever make it over toward Asheville, NC you need to find a Mast General Store. They are a lot like Vermont General Store. I do not think they are quite as pricey though. They have a website at http://www.mastgeneralstore.com . I love to stop at the one in Waynesville.
