I was looking up something on the internet the other day and came across an interesting link, which led to another one, then another, then another.... you know how that goes. I finally wound up at a really neat site called The Vermont Country Store. I was amazed at some of the items they carried that I hadn't seen in years.
Then it happened- I squealed with joy when I saw not just one of my all time favorite shampoos, but two! Remember these?
They arrived last week and I couldn't wait to use them.... I was a little disappointed that the "Body on Tap" didn't come in the old Lava lamp-shaped bottle, but it still smells the same as it used to. And the "Gee your hair smells terrific" doesn't lather up as well as I remembered, but my hair smelled so good after using it, I spent the whole day flinging my hair around like Cher just to smell it. (I know, I'm a fruitcake.) They were a bit pricey however, so I'll have to use sparingly.
Yes, I now have retro hair.
Now if only I could fit into my old bell bottoms.... *sigh*...
Please tell me you didn't get two of my all-time favorite shampoos ever! Are my eyes deceiving me??? They were what I used for years! I'm going to have to check that store out...I MUST have myself some!
ReplyDeleteI remember being in college and using Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific. I had a "shag" hairstyle! My Dad could not stand the fragrance when I would use it at home!!! One of my girlfriends and I saw the Bee Gees live in Atlanta and it was just great! We had opera glasses so we could zoom in on them! Thank you for the memories Paula.

ReplyDeleteI remember those shampoos and the online store you found is a winner...have you checked out the old fashioned candy they have? they are the only ones I know of who stock Walnettos...pricey though...it was my dad's favorite.

My bottom IS belled does that count? I was a child of the - well decades before you. Fun to try things we remember so fondly - sometimes they aren't quite what we remember. True of more than shampoos dear friends.

ReplyDeleteSomeone emailed me not long ago, talking about things from our childhood. She mentioned those yucky necklaces that were candy. Now they just sound nasty to me, but I remember we loved them at the time!
OMG I love both of those!!! But my absolute, all time favorite shampoo is Suave's strawberry scent. It just makes me want to flip the cap off the bottle and drink it.

Memories! In my case, memories of the tv my parents wouldn't get and the "cool" hair products my parents, again, wouldn't buy! LOL! I wonder if my daughter will have the same feelings because I won't buy her "Teen Spirit" deodorant!

ReplyDeleteHey, girlfriend! Twins of different mothers--I love Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific---and Dippity Doo. I remember sleeping with my hair in rollers--I still have dreams about it--and taping my spit curls to my cheeks overnight( I have naturally curly hair which was a curse back then).

Hi! My first time visiting and OH you've brought back some memories! I LOVED Bo and Luke, now my son has all the duke's episodes on dvd! Loved the BeeGees, saturday night fever AND Gee your hair smells terrific!!!!! How times have changed since then!
ReplyDeleteI love the Vermont Country Store. I used to get their catalogue. I was an Herbal Essence shampoo girl, myself. Did they have any Sun-In in there, by chance? Ah, the days I lay baking in the sun, with my coconut suntan lotion and yellow bottle of Sun-In nearby...in the days I'd be caught outside the house IN a swimsuit, that is. ;-)

ReplyDeleteWhat, no pics of retro hair? Did you iron it too? If I shaved my head I am sure I would have scars where I burned my scalp by hitting the blast of steam button on the iron while I was too close to my head. Ala 1974 in my best friend's hall way at six am. Ahh, memories!

ReplyDeleteI loved "Gee your hair smells terrific" shampoo too. I also loved Miss Breck but I guess Prell was cheaper and I always felt that my hair "went from flat to fluffy" just like they said it would on the bottle!!
ReplyDeleteOMG Bell bottoms were the bomb and still are. Of course I wore clogs with mine and when my daughters heard that they freaked out. Guess what.....they now wear clogs with their bell bottoms (boot cut low rise jeans) hehehe

What about Herbal Essence. I could smell that a mile away. The Herbal Essence they now sell, is not even close.
ReplyDeleteIf you ever make it over toward Asheville, NC you need to find a Mast General Store. They are a lot like Vermont General Store. I do not think they are quite as pricey though. They have a website at http://www.mastgeneralstore.com . I love to stop at the one in Waynesville.
