Shearing Daisy and Edie, our sweet but very spoiled sheep, is always a challenge, to put it mildly. Daisy does okay for the first few minutes, then starts to squirm to let me know she's had enough. Edie just bawls like a baby and pees all over everything. (That's her nervous reaction to EVERYTHING.)Every time we shear them, their wool underneath looks so different than we remembered... but I sure don't remember them having these many spots before!
I'm beginning to think Edie is part Appaloosa-
Daisy's spots are smaller- but you could still play connect the dots.
A few weeks ago I mentioned our barn was getting a much needed makeover so we could make better use of our space. This is what it used to look like-
Hubby put in lots of long hours on this trying to get it done as quickly as possible, but he also wanted to do a really neat job to make it look good, too.

To show my appreciation for Hubby doing such a wonderful job on the barn, I cleaned up his tractor and plow for him.
Which is kind of crazy, since he's going to play in the dirt with it this weekend.....The event Hubby looks forward to all year is coming up this Saturday in Crossville, TN- the annual antique tractor Plow day. Hubby isn't the only one looking forward to it... I love being a spectator and taking pictures of all the old tractors and the beautiful mule and horse teams as they plow up the ground. Plus, the scenery on the Cumberland Plateau is wonderful.
More bee updates coming soon- plus an update on those two broody banties who are trying to hatch out ONE EGG between the both of them.... until then, have a great weekend, everybody!!

ReplyDeleteI can't even imagine shearing a sheep...ya know I have told you I am a city girl. I think it is hilarious that when Edie is scared she pees everywhere....lol
I think we need to come on down and visit you on the farm someday. You could show us all the farmlife and how much work it is to take care of everything. Then Lexi might not want every single critter we see anywhere.

Since you love antique tractors, you should be sure to check out the Wilson County fair in Lebanon, TN. It is a county fair to beat all county fairs and they have an awesome bee display(I used to be a part of that) and a great antique tractor pull!

ReplyDeleteThe barn make-over is beautiful! I love the sheep. I didn't know a sheep could have a nervous pee problem. I have a dog that had that problem. Thankfully, she is better now that she is older.

Oh Paula, I really have barn envy now! DH and I just had the little heart to heart last night about "WHEN WILL THE BARN GET STARTED?". He has this way of pacifying me for a while and then I blow up. I have to show him your barn pics ;0)

I am sure your dh loved the nice clean and shiny tractor and plow!!! I surprised my dh probably 3 years ago for our anniversary, by cleaning/detailing his "Work" pick-up. He's a bulldozer man so you can only imagine how grungy it was. The guys were here putting a new roof on our house and they said they were jealous and that was the best present ever!!!! Maybe I'll do it again while he is building our barn!!! LOL!!

Do the girls need you to 'felt' them sweaters? That's alot of wool to lose! I think they are beautiful when freshly shorn. I bet they are so soft, even if they are chilly--teehee..... :+)
I just commented on another post and then scrolled down some more. We LOVE the annual tractor show in Crossville! That's where we lived before moving to WA. We still have our home there and plan on going back (for keeps) just as soon as we can. Don't know if we'll stay on the Plateau (mountain depending on which local you talk to) because of work (he was working in Knoxville when we lived in Crossville) but I do love the area of Crossville. The weather is perfect...nice breezes in the summer.
