It's that time of year again...

Grass is popping up... the trees are starting to bud.... the air has a wonderful warm feel...

Aaaand this is happening....

*Sigh*....
Welcome to Broodyville. Population: ....uhhhh.... it depends on how many hens are in the same box fighting over the eggs. At the moment, two.
Two hens that is, one egg between them.
(Yes, one.)

By the way, that was not, I repeat NOT, me giggling in the background.
I would never be so evil as to get any kind of amusement from messin' with these sweet little charmers. (mwahahahaha)

Welcome, Springtime! Let the blooming and the broodiness begin!  :)

  1. right that wasn't you chuckling - it was one of the chickens NOT going broody. If looks could do damage you'd be in big trouble - that is one protective silkie.

  4. That is really sweet! At first I thought that hen was growling - and in a way, she probably was! I had white Silkies some time ago - they are fun to have around!

  5. I had to laugh at the all the "don't touch me" squawking! What giggle in the backround? I didn't hear a thing! My goodness she is going to make someone a good momma!

  6. Well, I had to play your video three times because the first time I played it Scrappy, Violet and Charlie came in here like "What's going on in here?" Then the next two times it was just to laugh at them and watch there heads tilt and ears go up. Thanks for the afternoon entertainment. We can't wait for JP to get home so we can play it for him too. Praise the Lord for spring blessings.

  7. Paula-Yes, I heard that evil giggle-but I think the sweet hen knew you were only teasing her-she looked like it would kill her to really pick you, but those ole broody instincts are hard to fight down!
    So cute!
    Love, Debra

  10. Too funny! I've never had a hen go broody yet, knock on wood. Of course, now that I say that....they will all go broody at once:)

  11. Too funny! You had her in quite the dither, poor Mama. The one egg thing is just hysterical, but I guess if that chick hatches she will have some extra mama protection.

  12. Well, I can't view your video yet, says an error occurred, but I can tell from other comments that you were messing with your chickens! Oh, to be so lucky to have chickens. I'm so anxious to get some...Wonder if I can find a market for gophers? I've got plenty of those!

I know you must be super busy at this time of the year but isn't it nice to just be able to get outside! Thank you Lord for spring!!!

  19. SPRING!!! is that why one of my Buffs has gone broody? I had to google it because hubby thought the chicken was sick. LOL I had a feelin that that was what it was (broody) and she was not sick. To scrappy for that! We put her in a dog crate for a couple of days with no bed juat food and water and it did seem to change her mind but after afew day she was back in her box, then not. Will just have to watch her to see what she is going to do. We do not have a rooster so no point in sitting around here.

  20. I did not know that terrorism was communicative. I did not know sillkies could catch it. She doesn't act happy to be coerced from her job site. I laughed so hard. I nearly wet my pants. Happy spring, Sweetie! ★Linda

  24. Obviously your sweet handling was not convincing her to let you check the eggs...that is what makes those wonderful Silkies the very best Momma hens around, Gotta love those beautiful and fierce protectors of eggs and chicks!
