Grass is popping up... the trees are starting to bud.... the air has a wonderful warm feel...
Aaaand this is happening....
*Sigh*....
Welcome to Broodyville. Population: ....uhhhh.... it depends on how many hens are in the same box fighting over the eggs. At the moment, two.
Two hens that is, one egg between them.
(Yes, one.)
By the way, that was not, I repeat NOT, me giggling in the background.
I would never be so evil as to get any kind of amusement from messin' with these sweet little charmers. (mwahahahaha)
Welcome, Springtime! Let the blooming and the broodiness begin! :)
right that wasn't you chuckling - it was one of the chickens NOT going broody. If looks could do damage you'd be in big trouble - that is one protective silkie.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, you are too funny! That poor chicken, hehe. I am loving this warmer weather. We don't have any broody ones yet but I am waiting. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI just got back from a long walk..it was so nice! I love Spring!!! My little dog was sitting on my lap when your video started to play...he flew off at the sound of the chicken, I laughed so hard! I am hoping for baby chicks too, all of our got killed last spring by some critter of the night! Come say hi :D
ReplyDeleteThat is really sweet! At first I thought that hen was growling - and in a way, she probably was! I had white Silkies some time ago - they are fun to have around!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at the all the "don't touch me" squawking! What giggle in the backround? I didn't hear a thing! My goodness she is going to make someone a good momma!
ReplyDeleteWell, I had to play your video three times because the first time I played it Scrappy, Violet and Charlie came in here like "What's going on in here?" Then the next two times it was just to laugh at them and watch there heads tilt and ears go up. Thanks for the afternoon entertainment. We can't wait for JP to get home so we can play it for him too. Praise the Lord for spring blessings.
ReplyDeletePaula-Yes, I heard that evil giggle-but I think the sweet hen knew you were only teasing her-she looked like it would kill her to really pick you, but those ole broody instincts are hard to fight down!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
Love, Debra
Those silky's are always setting,we used to put quail eggs as well as chicken eggs under them and they are really good mamas. Have a great evening.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! I love this time of year! No setters at my house, yet, but I'm sure they're starting to think about it:)
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I've never had a hen go broody yet, knock on wood. Of course, now that I say that....they will all go broody at once:)
ReplyDeleteKris
Too funny! You had her in quite the dither, poor Mama. The one egg thing is just hysterical, but I guess if that chick hatches she will have some extra mama protection.
ReplyDeleteWell, I can't view your video yet, says an error occurred, but I can tell from other comments that you were messing with your chickens! Oh, to be so lucky to have chickens. I'm so anxious to get some...Wonder if I can find a market for gophers? I've got plenty of those!
ReplyDeleteI know you must be super busy at this time of the year but isn't it nice to just be able to get outside! Thank you Lord for spring!!!
I thought you were going to get your finger snapped off. Not a happy camper, that one. lol Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Marcia
I think, we may have sister chickens. Our broody hen looks just like yours, and acts like yours too... LOL
ReplyDeleteWe are enjoying our spring like weather here as well. I love it!
Just checked on the garlic I planted last fall and it is looking promising; yippie!
Have a great weekend Paula,
Mel
You are NOT getting that egg out from under her! hahaha Have a great weekend Paula!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying this warm weather. I love chicks and hope your chicks will come in time for Easter.
ReplyDeleteShe was so funny clucking like that! Silkies seem like really good moms!
ReplyDeleteLOL!! She sure was tellin you about it!
ReplyDeleteTracey
SPRING!!! is that why one of my Buffs has gone broody? I had to google it because hubby thought the chicken was sick. LOL I had a feelin that that was what it was (broody) and she was not sick. To scrappy for that! We put her in a dog crate for a couple of days with no bed juat food and water and it did seem to change her mind but after afew day she was back in her box, then not. Will just have to watch her to see what she is going to do. We do not have a rooster so no point in sitting around here.
ReplyDeleteI did not know that terrorism was communicative. I did not know sillkies could catch it. She doesn't act happy to be coerced from her job site. I laughed so hard. I nearly wet my pants. Happy spring, Sweetie! ★Linda
ReplyDeleteI thought for sure you were going to lose a finger!!
ReplyDeleteThey are so darn cute! Can't wait to see all the little fuzzy bottoms!
Spring is here in Southern California. It has been in the 80s here. I love spring...

ReplyDeleteObviously your sweet handling was not convincing her to let you check the eggs...that is what makes those wonderful Silkies the very best Momma hens around, Gotta love those beautiful and fierce protectors of eggs and chicks!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Paula and Happy Spring! I loved the video. Wishing you the very best this week.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great video!! Poor thing having to protect her egg like that!....lol
