This was the scene yesterday morning.... Smokey, our fierce and loyal watchdog, (chuckle, snort) saw the deer before I did, and ran up the hill to scare her away. When she turned and started toward him however, things changed as you can see....
This is his staredown tactic.
Hmmm.... doesn't seem to be working......
Maybe if he moves to a different strategic position...
Hmmm... nope...
Wait- I think she's finally got the message...
Way to go Smokey! Just look at her.... uhhhh... walk away. You really showed her!
Big grin! I've got a little guy like that, too.

It's all a matter of size! Did Smokey's ego do ok through it all?
ReplyDeletePoor Smokey:) I'm sure it puzzled him why she didn't run at the first sight of him! He's really adorable! I'm afraid our Angus~though quite a bit larger~is not much more effective against 'wild life'. He doesn't seem to mind armadilla's or skunks. But he really hates possums!
ReplyDeleteR~Mary
Hey! He did do the job. He saved his Mom/master from the much larger animal.
ReplyDeleteTo me, he is truely a hero!!!!!
And really cute to boot!
I watched a horse walk one of our doxies backward. Now that was funny......
How cute! Smokey is adorable!
ReplyDeleteSmokey is a real guard dog! Loved the pics.
ReplyDeleteThat was priceless...I'm so glad you had your camera! I'm sure that whole incident puzzled him! That last picture looks as if Smokey has alot to say! That was hilarious!

I love this picture story! My little 10 pound poodle has that kind of attitude too, especially with the cats, and they're bigger than he is.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, and will be back to "visit."
Cheryl
LOL! I just love Smokey! Even though deer kill so much of every thing that grows, I still love to see them. They are so graceful! Have a great weekend, blessings,Kathleen
ReplyDeleteVery cute and very brave! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I am still laughing...poor Smokey! We have a lab who has always been very brave tormenting our goats on the other side of the fence. One day she dug herself into the goat enclosure and sat there shaking...scared stiff of the goats! I had to literally save her from those mean big goats...who were all just staring at her! I just love your blog...come visit mine, I just posted pictures of our new baby goats, Naomi and Ruth!

ReplyDeleteSmokey Fraker ; how fierce he "isn't." heheoaoao Sure is cute though! He appears to "smile" ... or is it just me?
ReplyDeleteBet if that deer would have tried to get you, he'd have been all over it like the last pork chop on earth. Least you can hope? heehee
Oh for the love of furbabies. I can't imagine not having the love of a dog ... or three. ;)
Hugs from the Potting shed
Poor thing. He tried his best, and she did end up leaving. He's cute!

LOL Good job Smokey! What a ferocious beast. Good thing you've got such a good guard dog. Deer can be scary!
ReplyDeleteAwww What a cutie...i mean, what a fierce and aggressive protector! hahaha He looks pretty proud of himself! Give him a big old kiss for me!
ReplyDeleteBrave dog!! Poor Smokey! I just reading of the antics of all your animals. Hope it's cooling off for you. We have wonderful cool weather here now - thank God!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kay
Hey Paula, I think Smokey did a great job! I expect he got an extra treat.
ReplyDeleteI hope everything up that way is cooling off some. Do you know all we got from the tropical storm was a lot of wind? Too bad all the rain that fell in Fla. couldn't have been spread out more. The flooding look really rough for those folks.
Have a great weekend.
Pam
Paula, I knew I could come over to your blog and get a laugh this morning! That is so cute. I have a Shih Tzu dog that has big dog syndrome too.
ReplyDeleteLove, Ann
That is a great photo sequence! How did the deer not notice you and take off? At least you know Smokey has it in him to defend your place in case saber toothed tigers or grizzlies come sniffing around!
ReplyDeleteHaha, your deer was getting dinner and a show, that's why it didn't want to leave!
ReplyDeleteWhen we still had our rottweiler, it calmly watched as a SKUNK made itself at home in her dog house!! Some fierce hound, eh?
LOVE the attitude!!!! Hope he got a pat on the head for that one! Not sure what Buster would have done. Probably the same thing. He's great on THIS side of the fence but a real woos one on one!!!! Cora
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute story! ..and a cute dog! Way to have that cameera ready!
ReplyDeleteGood big dog!! Makes me want to find another one! Our lived over 15 years and it's hard to think about replacing her. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. I cannot believe that deer did not take right off. I will share this post with my Maine Man, he'll love them!
ReplyDeleteYea Smokey you run that big ole deer off!!! Good boy! That is just too cute!!

Smokey and the deer, how much time elapsed while you were shooting pictures of the little drama ? Great post . KathyB.
ReplyDeleteLife is all about perspective - Smokey's perspective was - I'm here, I'm doing my job - alien invader leaves - where's my treat mom?
ReplyDeleteGreat series - the deer around our place are so skittish our dogs never can get close to them. Good to see you back!
