I have just made a strange discovery in the last week...I think my computer is posessed. (insert "Twilight Zone" music here.) I've been having some strange things going on, and it seems to involve my internet connection. Anyhoo, this story was supposed to be on here a few days ago. Enjoy, while I go slam my mouse around a few times for good measure. (And stress relief.)
While I was inside the barn locking up all the birds at dusk the other night, I heard what sounded like the world's biggest bumblebee. I looked around and didn't see anything, but it seemed to sound louder up in the loft. I climbed up on Hubby's tractor to look, and up in the highest peak of the metal-roof barn, was a trapped Hummingbird. I could tell it had been trying to find it's way out for a long time, because the normal buzzing sound had been replaced by a faint little humming, and it was flying very slow like it was just about pooped. I ran and got Hubby who climbed up into the loft and using a broom, scooped the little guy up and handed him to me. I quickly ran down to the feeder so it could get a drink and have enough energy to make it back home before dark.
Now, nobody knows this but me and you, but I have secretly always wanted to hold a Hummingbird in my hand. (And not a dead one, either.) My Momma and I used to talk about how tiny their little feet were, and we would say, "Oh I would just love to hold one for a second or two and then let it go."
Well, I've been missing Mom quite a bit lately, (more than usual) and after this happened, my first thought was, "I wish Mom could have seen this." But then I realized, God had allowed me to have one of my hearts' desires come true...
Sometimes he sends comfort in the strangest ways, but always when we need it most!
Here is a picture of it getting a drink...
And me holding it until it flew away...
Notice it's little feet? Is that sweet or what!
That was such a precious moment...glad you got a photo..those little feet are so so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about computer problems too...I've spent so many hours deleting files, defragmenting, etc, trying to figure out what was wrong with mine...somehow its ok now so must have done something right..
good luck!
Oh WOW that is cool! I am glad you were there to help this little one along. Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little hummingbird!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you were there to help him and to get your wish :)
Oh how sweet! I would like to hold one too, just long enough to feel those tiny feet and it's zillion-beats-per-second heartbeat! God does send comfort just when we need it. How true.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is so awesome! They are such beautiful little creatures. I'm glad you were able to save it. Poor thing had to be tired. Very cool how your wish was granted.
ReplyDeleteMy computer has been acting crazy too. I feel for you.
Oh my goodness, Paula, you brought tears to my eyes! That was a special moment...and you're so kind hearted! I'm so glad you got pictures!
ReplyDeleteComputers can be VERY strange...and they're nice when they work right, but when they don't, they can be real stinkers!

Paula, your Mom was there. She engineered it so that your mutual wish came true. She is living through you and in you. Motherly love is a powerful thing. I have been having alot of thought recently about my dear Grandma. Her birthday was Aug. 23. I do miss her more than any other person. We shared so much. I know I am lucky to still have my Mother and I love her dearly but her Mother really affected me so much, too.
ReplyDeleteThat little hummer was brought to you by a strong love for you and you passed it on to that little bird. Do you know how much it took for that little bird to stay in that barn, making noise so you could hear him. I believe in miracles and I believe your dear, sweet Mom visited you. That makes me very happy and my tears are tears of joy.
About the computer--you are on dial-up, right? I swear, sometimes I want to go in debt for my own private high-speed, but I know there are many more important things. Every time I think it is the computer, it turns out to be the connection. Don't take it out on the poor little mouse. Maybe it's a sign for you to do something else?
Thanks so much for coming over to visit and leaving so many nice comments. I have to admit, I've missed you! Big (((HUGS))) :)
What a precious gift! I can't imagine what those little feet feel like on your hand. I'm sure God placed you both where you needed to be at that moment. He knew that you would take care of that little one of his and in return He would take care of you. I'm so happy for you.

What a sweet answer God gave you to your wish! He knew your heart needed it! Hope all has been well.
ReplyDeleteComputers really do have a mind of their own, in my opinion, and unfortunately, my mind rarely meshes with the one in my computer!

I don't know if it's my wildly swinging emotions in the last couple of days or what, but you kinda have me in tears. What a beautiful thing to experience.
ReplyDeleteI had the pleasure of holding a hummingbird once, too. Alive! It had flown into our dining room window and was thoroughly dazed, but not dead. They are just so incredibly tiny!!
Such a wonderful experience. Now, you're my hero!
ReplyDeletePaula, you had me crying! This is a great story and I thank you for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteNow us girls can't do without the computer up and running right, can we?
Hugs,
Becky
That is so awesome! I got to hold one once. My husband and I were having morning coffee on our deck and we had a feeder at our feet and they would come drink from it. One of the birds inadvertently flew directly into a cats mouth. My husband spanked the cat and he dropped the bird. I held the bird until it flew onto our tv antenna.
ReplyDeleteThat was over 10 years ago but I will never forget how small it was and the experience.
Well now, that little hummer was so lucky to be in your barn and land in your loving and caring hands. I think it was wonderful that you were able to hear the little one in distress and rescue him. Hummingbirds are symbols of Joy and transformation. In some cultures they believe they are like little fairies. It is also said they bring messages from your loved ones in Spirit. Maybe your Mom was saying "Hi" and sending her love in a way that you would understand...Whatever the reason for the "visit" and connection i believe it was special all around. And it couldn't have happened to a nicer person. :)
ReplyDeleteEither we're all hormonal or your post really touched some hearts! It brought tears to my eyes too!! What a special thing for you to get to be involved with - and to have PHOTOS! Now you're a REAL blogger! hehehe!
ReplyDeleteOh What a sweet story, i love the pictures of the bird i do hope it got home safely.I am like you and my sons we are always rescuing something be it a wasp field mouse birds. My Germand shepherd has a thing a bout trying to eat bumble bees of all things he snaps when he doesn't think i can see him and when i turn round you know what he has done and going to get told of he looks all sheepish, i tell him bumble bees are precious he just looks at me and goes of to look for the squirrel next.lolTake care~Kate~
ReplyDeleteThose were the most fantatic pictures! I cannot imagine holding one...but how great you saved its life!!!
ReplyDeleteJuri
How sweet. I'm glad you saved it.

Great story - my mom loved hummingbirds - she hand raised one that had been injured - I'll never forget seeing my sweet mamas very crooked fingers (doggoned old arthuritis)with a teeny hummer perched on her index finger- eating from a syringe. Yep - their little teeny feet are interesting!
ReplyDeleteHey Paula. I am so happy you and your hubby were able to rescue that sweet little hummingbird. I agree with how cute those little feet are and so glad he was sent your way.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Pam
What a sweet story. God does answer us in his own good time. Your wish for a humming bird encounter was a two fold belssing. You got your wish to hold the humming bird. And you were able to help it along the way. So you were both blessed. Oh and I loved your guard dog in the last post. It really just looked like a meeting of the minds :)
ReplyDeleteSo tiny! I'm glad you found it. Wha ta special moment for you. I love to watch the hummingbirds.
ReplyDeleteOh Paula, this is the sweetest story. What a gift to you from God. Could you even feel his tiny weight? How wonderful to be his rescuer! I just love this. I want to cry...
ReplyDeleteLove, Debra
I just discovered your wonderful blog. I was born and raised in East Tennessee. My ancestors were Tennessee pioneers. I was born in Knoxville and raised in Clinton. Hope you will visit my blog, too. It's so good to hear about East Tennessee.
ReplyDeleteI have added your blog to my Blog List. Hope that's ok. Many blessings, Barbara
ReplyDeletewow....your mom sent him to you. how amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely beautiful Paula!!! That could totally make me cry. God is so good. What a wonderful treasure and experience He gave you.
ReplyDeleteOh, Paula, that is the sweetest thing I've heard in ages. God cares about the details of our lives, and giving us the desires of our hearts.
ReplyDeleteThe bird is precious, just like his Creator.
I have never known anyone who has held a live hummingbird! Now I do... I'm not sure I would have approached what I thought was a large angry bee/wasp!!! Curiosity has its rewards.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful moment! I too have always wanted to hold a hummingbird. Tell me.... was it the softest most delicate thing to ever grace your hand???
ReplyDeleteI HAVE to know details.
Blessings!

My heart has melted just reading this story!! I do see God in it!!
ReplyDeleteOk...I have a tear, too!!
Oh this is so sweet and you are so lucky! I love watching hummingbirds. I've been having problems also and finally gave up on it and took over hubby's laptop. It freezes up and won't let me go to my blogger friends. Maybe it's time for a new one. Until then I'll be using this one when I can. Take Care :)
ReplyDeleteWOW! I'm just speechless. I love hummingbirds. That you got to hold one is truly amazing.
ReplyDeleteawwwwwwwwwwwww
ReplyDeletethat is just awesome! Love what you wrote about your Mom and so relate there! sigh*
Hope your computer gets lined out!
Lea
Oh how precious! And I loved your words about your mamma and your thoughts on God, which are absolutely true! We have little hummers hanging around our feeders. They are so sweet! What a treat for you! blessings, Kathleen
ReplyDeleteI have had humming birds get into my garage when we leave the doors open all day. I would chase them from one end to the other with the broom with no avail. I finally found a little butterfly net at the dlooar tree of all places. It works beautifully for catching traped humming birds. I also take them to the feeder and they will willingly drink for a second or two and then their off into the wild blue yonder. Glad you are compassionate and caring enough to help the poor little guy. God does bless us in many ways we just havwe to have our hearts and minds available to see and feel them sometimes.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,
Shanda
OMG...how precious!!! I hope it recovers and gets strong again. That is absolutely the neatest thing and I am so glad you got to rescue that little hummingbird.
ReplyDeleteThe little hummers are such an amazing little bird. To be able to hold one, Wow! I have five feeders in my yard, I started with just one but----they don't want to share, that is how I ended up with five. Every afternoon at 5:30 pm I have about a dozen of those little hummers buzzing around. What entertainment!
ReplyDeleteOh Paula..you did great!!!!! I'm so glad you found it. I do believe your mom had a little something to do with that particular encounter!
ReplyDelete:)Doreen
Oh how fantastic!! I just love hummingbirds. They are so majestic and fast. I can only imagine how special that moment was for you.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen anyone hold a hummingbird before!!1 That is so neat!
