Pear Butter:
5 or 6 pounds of small to medium sized pears
3 cups of sugar
3 tablespoons of cinnamon
3 teaspoons of lemon juice
Core, peel, and slice pears; place in a large stockpot and add 1 cup of water. Cook over medium heat until soft. Drain off water and purée pear slices in a food processor. Combine pear purée, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice together in large pot and cook over medium to high heat until thickened, stirring continuously. Using normal canning preparations, (wash jars and lids, keep them in hot water until ready to fill) ladle mixture into jars, then process in a hot water bath canner for 10 minutes.
Makes approximately 4 pints, depending on the size of the pears.
Happy weekend, everybody!
YUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! My mom used to make pear jam all the time and it was BY FAR my favourite of all her jams, jellies, juices, and other preserves. Man, I miss pear jam....
ReplyDeleteThat looks really good! I've been looking for some pears myself. I've got a recipe for pineapple-pear butter (never tried it, but it sounds good!) So, if I get some and it works out, I'll post the recipe.
ReplyDeleteThat looks DEEE-licious Paula!!!! I'm *almost* half tempted to try it, but I still have nightmares about a certain peach butter mess in my kitchen 2 years ago, LOL!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this recipe!! I am on a canning break (gasp) right now, because we are in the process of moving. However, I am putting this one in my recipe book and I'm going to make it one of these days!! Pears are my most favorite fruit......yummy :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend !
Hey Paula,
ReplyDeleteI need that peeling machine! My fingers are worn out from peeling pears.
I still have some pears on the trees(Betsy and Jack keep eyeballing them from the barnyard).
I am going to try your Pear Butter recipe this weekend. Maybe the cool air will get here soon. It makes picking pears nicer.
97 degrees again today!
Have a great weekend.
Pam
By Golly! Wish I had read that when I was putting away all those pears for cobblers and some drying. Is it too late to take some out of the packed freezer and try that recipe? Ginny
ReplyDeleteNever had pear butter but there is a tree over at the playground. I may just try your recipe. I made juice a couple years ago. I'm excited about this. Thanks!

I love seeing how things are made. I have always shyed away from pears (peaches, too) as I envision juice dripping down my arms! But that does look good, and your contraption to pare the pears looks like it solves the messy problem! Like your new, fall background, too!
ReplyDeleteI was just Face Booking a friend about going to pick apples this week. Great minds think alike! I have never had pear butter. It looks and sounds really good. I am hoping to get out and pick apples here shortly so we can have some apple bread and apple pies. Do you ship??? lol!

Hi Paula, How pretty and festive your Autumn blog background is. My brother and I love pear butter. I can remember my aunt making it. Wishing you two a wonderful weekend. We appreciate your prayers so very much.
ReplyDeleteI made peach butter about the same way. Slow cooker worked well to get the correct consistency. I'll give pears a try. Any thoughts on green tomatoes
ReplyDeleteFound you through Life on a Southern Farm! I made pear honey and posted it on my blog last night. I'm picking more pears today and pear butter is next on my list now! Thank you for the recipe.
