In my last post I had a picture of our newest construction project but didn't tell you the details..... this is our new 24 x 24 sheep barn with a feed room for keeping hay and grain close at hand and also plenty of space to set up lambing pens next winter.
Here it is with the roof on, still under construction....
Here is a picture of what they are in now, with the new barn in the background-
Last year was a terrible year for our garden... in fact, we've had three tough years in a row trying to grow anything. Last year was very wet and a lot cooler than normal, and the two years before that we were in a drought. We've decided this year to cut the size of our garden way back..... this was the size of it last year before we planted...
And here is my new downsized garden... about 10 x 10.
Tomatos, cucumbers, peppers and strawberries are already in- Hubby is going to plant some corn at another location to sell but this is all we're going to attempt this year for our own table.
This is a picture of my new nose job, courtesy of sweet little Molly the sheep:
Molly was on the trimming stand getting her spring shearing and was already stressed out about the whirring of the shearer motor getting closer and closer to her head, when suddenly Smokey came bouncing up the driveway and she saw him out of the corner of her eye. Next thing I knew, WHAMMO... her head came off the stand and knocked me right square-dab in the face. My nose bled for 10 minutes... I haven't had a nose bleed in probably 10 years, so I guess I was due for a good one.
Thankfully, I don't think it's broken now, but I sure wasn't convinced right after it happened.
*Sigh*... nothing like have a sheep rearrange your face...
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend- Plow Day is this Saturday and Hubby is so excited... hopefully the weather will stay nice and I can take some good pictures!
Bless your heart! I bet that hurt. We had a snake in the yard one time and the cat was trying to size it up. I got nervous thinking the snake was going to strike so I quickly picked her up and it scared the day lights out of her. She tore into my forearm like she had razorblades. It hurt soooo bad. I couldn't be mad at her though, she was just acting out of being scared. Silly me for picking her up, ha.
ReplyDeleteThe new barn looks sooo purdy. I can't wait to see it all done. Those sheepies are so blessed.
OOOOOOoooo I know how badly it hurts to get whacked in the nose. I'm so glad it isn't broken....OUCH!
ReplyDeleteLooks like the new barn is going to be much bigger...yay for the sheep. I hope your garden does well this year. It looks a more manageable size. I still have never tried a garden and I really want to. I will get a couple of tomato plants again and I'm thinking of trying a strawberry plant.
I hope we get to see pictures of Plow Day. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.♥
Ouch!! I sure hope that it is not broken.
ReplyDeleteThe new barn looks great.
thanks for sharing.
Hi Paula:
ReplyDeleteOuch...that looks so painful. Did you end up with black and blue eyes too?
The new barn will be so nice, lots of room to move around in. And I know what you are saying with the garden...ours didn't do so good last year either. We are moving it to a different spot this year. If we can ever get it planted, that is. We had snow again last night. The news guy was saying you can't really plant until after Mother's day here. Even then, you can lose things to the freeze.
I love your farm...it's so pretty.
Wow, Paula, you deserve hazard pay! hope its alot better now and you were lucky not to have a broken nose.....hope your garden does better this year...last year was our first and it was so so..we did learn alot though...this year so far it looks alot better..although a slug made a meal out of our Romaine lettuce seedlings.....
ReplyDeleteOWWWWHHH!!! I KNOW that hurt!! Animals and distractions do Not go together!lolol
ReplyDeleteLove the "inspector"...Hahaa
Feel better soon!
hughugs
Hi Paula, I can imagine the head ache that came with that nose. Bless your heart.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh out loud at your codes inspector ~ that is what my husband did for a living!!!
I love the new barn and I remember Plow Day from past years so I look forward to the pictures.
Hoping you have a very nice weekend.
Well, at least her fee is free! LOl The garden space looks just right to me and the new shed will be great! Hope you have Spring there...good luck with all your projects..be careful of fast moving animals! Come say hi :D
ReplyDeletePaula, I've never known anyone who was hit in the nose with a sheep before. You're so special! All jokes aside, I've been hit it the face with a few heads in my time and I know it hurts. It often prompts old words to pop out that we thought we'd overcome along with stars:) I'm glad you are ok.
ReplyDeleteA hocky mask might be a useful tool for sheering sheep!
Debbie
Oh Paula, that looks so painful. I have been hit in the face a few times by goats, but never that bad. I hope it heals quickly. Your new barn will be great. We have not had a decent garden for 3 years either. I haven't even had the canner out for 3 or 4 years. I think we are downsizing this year too. Nothing planted yet, but hopefully within the next couple of weeks. Take care of yourself, dear. Winona
ReplyDeleteAwww...bless your heart! Did you cry? Did you cuss? Did you call hubby? Just asking...I would have! (All three!) LOL! I'm a big baby!
ReplyDeleteThe barn is very nice! Those sheep better be nice to you from now on!
That barn is going to be great!! Ouch on the nose! I hope it's better soon.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't had a good garden in a while, either. We don't seem to be off on a good start for this one, so we may not have much of a harvest.
Have a fun weekend!
The new sheep barn is indeed lovely. I am sure the girls will love the space. I love the red roof.
ReplyDeleteI keep wanting a smaller garden but ours has never been as big as yours. It is way more stuff than we can eat. I can more than we ever eat over the winter. We have tomato juice that is 5 years old. Fortunately, we have a dark pantry to store it in.I have taken a fair share of it for flowers, though!
You have the most beautiful blue eyes. I am sorry we had to see them with that big ole boo boo. Will you have a shiner tomorrow?
Do we see a worker's comp suit in our future? LOL Sorry---I definitely do not think this is funny. It looks very painful. Hope it clears up quickly. :)

I cant wait to see the new barn all done. Ouch thinking about you getting hit in the nose makes my nose hurt. I hope your garden comes out better this year i am crossing my fingers for you : )
ReplyDeleteOH! THAT LOOKS LIKE IT HURT.I'VE BEEN THERE,THE LAST BLACK EYE I HAD WAS DUE TO A CALF HEAD SO I KNOW HOW YOU MUST HAVE FELT.
ReplyDeleteHAVE A BLESSED TOMORROW
Oh my goodness! Ouch that hurt! You can't blame your sheep, but I can blame my husband - he dropped a box onto my nose just like yours from the attic. I was going to catch it and he let go before I was ready. I bled like a stuck pig and then my nose and both eyes blackened. You can get alot of mileage out of that, Paula, if you want!!!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah - great new barn, Paula. I know your sheep will really enjoy that space!
ReplyDeleteOh gracious!!!!! OUCH!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new barn!!!! I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's completed..I'm sure the girls will love their new accommodations! Your codes inspector looks like a tough one....you had better make sure all your paper work is in order for that one!!!
Wishing you a great day
Doreen
ps...I broke my toe yesterday!!!!
Looks like sheep shearing was a "come to Jesus" day...meaning a lot of prayers went up to heaven! -smile-
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the nose isn't broken and the new buildings look wonderful.
While you're building, don't forget most of the round bale hay waste is from it sits on the ground. One of these days I hope to have a building where there's a cement floor to sit round bales on...hope springs eternal!
I bet your sheep will enjoy their new home...looks good!
ReplyDeleteOuch to the nose...hope you recover quickly!
Have a great weekend - stop over for a visit soon! :)
Love the new barn! it will be wonderful. and ouch on the nose - hope it heals quickly
ReplyDeletekris
The new sheep barn will really be nice!! (love the red roof) And, the downsized garden will pleasure to work in! Do you use your chicken droppings to enhance the growing? It really makes our garden grow! We have red clay otherwise.
ReplyDeleteTake care of your nose!!
Oh! Miss Paula!
ReplyDeleteBless your heart! How does your nose feel, now? Did you have to put a steak on it? Does that really work? Enough with the 20 questions, huh? I sure hope you're feeling all better now!!!!
I her you about the garden last year. No luck, here, either. I'm trying again, too. I'm just a glutton for punishment, I guess. On the other hand, maybe it will work?!?!?
I love your new lamb's home - I can see it completed in my mind.
What'cha gonna do with their "old" one? New farm animals? A storage shed? Uch-oh - here I go asking too many questions again....
You get better and get back to your babies!
Many Blessings,
Julie
I'm so sorry about your nose getting hurt. The new sheep barn looks real nice. Those animals are so blessed to have a nice place to stay out of the weather. I hope your garden does well this year. We've also downsized our garden. We got it planted yesterday. I sure hope we have sufficient rain, sufficient sunshine to have a good garden.
ReplyDeleteWow, she did a number on you!! I hope it heals well.
ReplyDeleteYea for new barns, cute code inspectors, and smaller gardens.
I'm only planting what I can manage.
sorry about the nose..OOUCH! Here's hoping the hurt is going away and only the battle wound remains..
ReplyDeleteOuch!! I'm so glad it wasn't broken. Must have been tearfully painful, though. Your garden is just a little bigger than my baby gardern of 8 x 4. I'm finding that it's not nearly enough even though I'm not much of a farmer!! ha ha ha
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Patricia :o)
You da man, "Whitey." Make sure they do er up right for you sheep buddies! So glad your nose is on the mend---boy that must have hurt! Your garden size looks just about perfect to me!
ReplyDeleteOuch! Hope you are feeling better. I'm so glad the nose isn't broken. Any injury to the nose takes a while to recover from. Love the new barn. That will be much more convenient for you more comfortable for the sheep.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Oh my goodness, Paula! Getting hurt in the nose hurts!
ReplyDeleteLove the looks of your new barn and good luck with your garden! (The smaller the better when it comes to gardens for me since I just don't have a green thumb...but want to)! :)
Have a great week, Paula! :)
Tammy
The new barn is definitely an upgrade for them! I'm sure they will love it!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your nose! Glad it's not broken, but I know that had to hurt pretty bad!
OMGoodness! OWIE!!! That must've just hurt so much! You must love your little animals to speak so kindly of them after they whack you a good one! You're so sweet!
ReplyDelete(((Hugs))) to you!
~TattingChic ♥
Just realized I didn't comment on this post - probably too much empathy pain! I broke my cheek bone falling in the goat pen in February - your nose looks like it hurt - my face was so bad I think it made other people hurt! Sure got some weird looks in the grocery store - glad you weren't broken just bent a bit!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your nose! Dang that hurts~ Hope it's healing well and feeling better by now.
